WORKING WELL

LYSANDER_AMD MASK CIVILITY’S PROGRAMME (Special to THE SUN.) WANGANUI, Friday. The weather was fine for training operations on the Wanganui tracks on Thursday morning, number one track, on which the fast work was done, being in great order after Wednesday’s rain. The first to work was White Ringlet, whose task was four furlongs. The first furlong was left behind in 12 2-5, the three furlongs taking 24 3-5, and when the post was reached the watch registered 49, which, even when later gallops are taken into consideration, was really good time. CUP HORSE WELL Mask was the next to show his pace, and with a light boy up, was, sent over a mile, being shaken up over the last six furlongs. He did the first quarter in 26 4-5. and took 53 for half a mile, cutting out the six furlongs in 1.2-0 1-5, going well within himself all tho way. Bent was close in to the rails when she covered seven furlongs in 1.35 4-5, the first five taking I.S. Thaw and Co vent Garden were asso-

dated in a four-furlongs gallop, which took 50. The first furlong occupied 12 4-5, and the quarter 25. Both were on level terms at the finish. CIVILITY AND LYSANDER Lysander, with his trainer in the saddle, was slightly ahead of Civility when they set off on a four-furlongs task, but the mare was soon alongside him.* That the pace was on from the outset the time for the first furlong, 11 4-5, demonstrated, and the two furlongs occupied 23 3-5, while they recorded 48 2-5 for the full distance, with Civility a length to the good. Taking into consideration the difference in weights and the fact that Lysander was going easily at the finish, it was a good gallop, serving to show that the son of Absurd and Pennon is still to be reckoned with in sprint events. Civility will be accepted for in the A.R.C. Railway, but a definite decision as to whether she will make the trip will not be reached until next week. PROBABLE HURDLE WINNER Marcia, Elysianor and Hosiery were associated in a spin over three furlongs, the former pair finishing well ahead of their companion. Their time for the distance was 37 1-5, while Hosiery took 38 4-5. Elysianor is a greatly improved horse as a result of recent racing, and will be hard to beat in hurdle events during the holidays. Archon and Hallownoon were given a seven-furlong task that occupied 1.34 1-5, tho first half mile being left behind in 54.
