Mervette's First From the barrier Venus Abbey led from Ladies’ Boy, Air King and Mervette, and round the back the order was much the same, with the exception that Ladies’ Boy dropped back. Into the straight Venus Abbey and Air King were together, being attended by Mervette, Young Pretender and Prince Lu. In the run home Mervette went on to win easily by a length from Air King, who beat Venus Abbey by half a length. Ladies’ Boy was fourth, and next to finish were Glenetta, Young Pretender and Catclaw. TARINGAMCTU HANDICAP Of £75; 6 furlongs. 7 ABBEY DAY (W. H. Wackrow), b m, by Quin Abbey—Bell Crispin, 4yrs, 7.10, E. Keesing 1 4—BILLIKINS, S.S, Spinks 2

Abbey Day at Last Major Abbey and Cantab were smartest away, attended by Billikins and Abbey Day. Going along the back Major Abbey, Billikins, Cantab and Bracken Abbey were in line, with Abbey Day and Flutter next. Coming into the straight the order was the same, but in the run to the judge Abbey Day came with a burst to win by two lengths from Billikins, who beat Abbey Queen by half a head.
