AMATEURS V. PROS.
N.Z. A.A.A. DISCUSSION N.Z.A.A.A. DISCUSSION Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. Mr. E. C. Isaacs, Otago, asked for an expression of opinion from the conference in regard to the running of amateur events at professional meetings. In Otago, considerable trouble was caused through the clashing of amateurs and profesisonals since the Dunedin professional club had been refused permission by the Otago Centre to stage amateur events on its sports programmes. Mr. G. G. Lockwood, Canterbury, said his centre did not wish to be bound down by any rigid rule. Mr. E. C. Guy, New Zealand Council, said that it was a matter for explaining to the boys the distinction between amateurism and professionalism. Professionalism was now dead in New Zealand, and no man could make a living out of professional running.
