Joynson-Hicks, Secretary of State for Home Affairs, told Sir Reginald Hall, Conservative, that he had seen the Pjess reports that some of the British delegates to the Bolshevik celebrations took the oath of allegiance to the Soviet Republic. Sir Reginald Hall: Isn’t this tantamount to treason. Sir W. Joynson-Hicks said that he was afraid that could not be the basis of a treason prosecution. He did not think it would lose a British subject his rights. Commander J. M. Kenworthy, Liberal: Did you see the photographs of Sir Austen Chamberlain giving the Fascist salute in Italy ? Sir W. Joynson-Hicks: I wish you would send me a copy for my scrapbook.—A. and N.Z.-Sun.
