FIRE IX NEW SOUTH WALES.— A fire at Narromine, New- South Wales, destroyed four shops. The damage is £•10,000.— A. and N.Z. NEW SOUTH WALES PARLIAMENT.—The New South Wales Legislative Council passed the Industrial Arbitration Amendment Bill, and Bill prohibiting night betting on licensed racecourses. Both Chambers adjourned till December 20.—A. and N.Z. UNITED STATES PRESIDENCY. — It is announced that a Republican national convention, to be held for the Purpose of choosing a candidate for ”? e Presidential election, will meet at Kansas City on June 12.—A. and N.Z. • • • LIBERAL WlN.—The by-election for the Gippsland South seat in the Victorian Legislative Assembly resulted a win for Mr. W. West, the Liberal, against Mr. Buckley, the Labour candidate.—A. and N.Z. SINGAPORE DOCK.—The fifth section of the floating dock for Singapore *as launched at Swan Brothers’ yard *t Wallsend on Wednesday. The remaining two sections \vi*i he launched m a few days. Each will be tested separately before the sections are Joined into two main sections for towto Singapore. In building the dock 3,000,000 rivets and 20.000 tons of steel were used. —A. and N.Z.-Sun. Rains in Australia. —Rain has fallen in the north and north-western districts of New South Wales, many Places receiving between two and four inches. Beds that were dry. and ‘reeks and hollows are filled like flooded rivers. Heavy damage has been done to fencing. Good rains were also experienced in the drought-stricken areas o£ Queensland. —A, and N.Z.
