MT. WELLINGTON WANTS WATER FROM THE CITY
NEW MAINS NECESSARY The question of securing a water supply is engaging the attention of the Mount Wellington Road Board. T AST evening the board asked the City Council on what terms it could supply water and where. At present Ellerslie lies betweei^ the city and Mount Wellington, and’
the council has no authority to put a main through Ellerslie. The waterworks department suggested that the present four-inch main between Ladies Mile and Marua Road, the city boundary, might be increased to six-inch, at a cost of £7OO, leaving Mount Wellington to arrange and build its own main through Ellerslie, the cost being about £I,OOO. He estimated that , Mount Wellington would use 10,000 gallons dally and suggested that Is a 1,000 gallons, as charged to other bodies, should be quoted. The Waterworks Committee will : consider the position before the offer lis made.
