“CARMEN” TO BE STAGED The staging of ‘‘Carmen,’’ Bizet’s spectacular and world-famous opera by an Auckland company at His Majesty’s Theatre ofn December 19 and 20, will be a production of considerable interest to Auckland musiclovers. Not only is Bizet’s music of a particularly attractive nature, but Aucklanders will also be afforded an opportunity of seeing Madame Irene Ainsley in the title role —a role in which this talented vocalist has achieved considerable renown in the English operatic world. .... . - Madame Ainsley will be supported by a strong cast of principals and a well-balanced chorus of 60 voices. The company has been steadily rehearsing for several months and is reported to have attained a high standard of efficiency. Mr. W. E. Webb is in charge of a strong orchestra comprised of leading Auckland musicians, and to Miss D. Knight has been entrusted the arrangement of the brightly coloured and spectacular ballets for which “Carmen” is justly famed. Preferential booking can now be arranged at Lewis R. Eady and Son, Ltd.
