NATIONAL PARK

Gin TOWARD HOSTEL NEW SCENIC AREAS (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, To-day. A contribution of £SOO has been received by the Tongariro National Park Board from the Bruce trustees toward the erection of the proposed new hostel. A movement is afoot to acquire several fine scenic areas near the Main Trunk line. At to-day’s meeting of the board, the chairman said that under the old Act it was only possible to acquire lands adjoining the park. Amending legislation which had been passed however allowed the board to exchange or acquire new areas. Reference was made to the question for charging for admission to the park. It was pointed out that under an amending Bill passed recently the board was empowered to charge for the admission of horses, vehicles and people to the park. It was decided to refer the question of charges to a sub-committee to report to the next meeting of the board.
