HOUSEWIVES’ GUIDE Moderate supplies of farmers’ butter in the city markets are sellat from 1s 2d to 1s 4d a lb., and hen eggs at 1s to 1s Duck eggs are bringing 1s 5d to 1s 6^d. Fish and meat in the shops maintain steady prices. Elevenpence a pound buys rump steak over the counter. Beef sausages are about 6d. Neck of mutton costs 6d a pound, side 7d a pound, and loin of pork 8d a pound. Lemons are scarce in the shops and bring 2s a dozen. Good strawberries are about 1s 3d a chip and plentiful in the marts. Sydney navel and Tahiti oranges range round 3d and 4d. Cherries sell round 1s 6d. Canadian apples cost 7d and local Sturmers 6d. Doughertys are 4d. Small apricots are being sold at 8d and gooseberries round sd. Good local hothouse tomatoes are selling at 1s 6d. Red currants were coming on the markets in good supply this morning. There were plenty of plums there also. Rhubarb is selling in the city markets at 2s 6d to 4s a dozen, and new potatoes were plentiful at 3s to 6s 6d a bag. Cauliflower sold at 1s 6d to 7s a dozen.
