DOGGED BY FIRE

MILL-OWNER’S MISFORTUNE For the second time in 20 years Mr. Herbert Pollard, principal of the firm of Henderson and Pollard, watched his property wrecked before his eyes. His feelings may be imagined, for he joined the late Mr. Alec. Henderson, as an employee, when the former had a small establishment in Karangahape Road. Later they transferred to Enfield Road, where a fire swept their property IS or 19 years ago. From the ashes rose the much larger building destroyed this morning. Mr. Pollard, who lives in Mount Eden Road, answered a telephone summons to learn for the second time that his mill was on fire. He has watched the business grow to be one of the largest, of its type, in New Ze land. It carries a staff of 100 men, some of whom will be thrown out of work, and in the office, which was in the -destroyed building, several others were engaged.
