EXCURSION TO RUSSELL
A POPULAR OUTING ' Thu -first railway excursion this sea- ; son from Whangarei and Portland ran on Sunday and every carriage was well packed with excursionists from the various stations along the line to the terminus, Opua. Launches were waiting to convey the sightseers not only to Russell, but also to many or the historical places dotted about the Bay of Islands. Special trips were made down the harbour and the famous swordfishing grounds and camp were visited by a large number ox people for the first time. The day was ideal and the Railway Department is to be congratulated on the excellent arrangements which wer? made. Next Sunday the department will run a special train from Kaikobe and the inland towns to Opua. Given
a fine day large numbers of countn people are sure to avail themsehes of the opportunity of visiting the bays in and around Russell.
