WORLD TIN FAMINE

PLAN OF CONTROL By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Thursday. Mr. E. J. Byrne, who initiated the scheme to restrict the output of tin, said, in reference to Lord Askwith’s statement that the world was threatened with a shortage of tin, “in three years the world’s tin mines will be exhausted. The, end of supplies is in sight. The price will reach such a figure as to preclude consumption. “The only way to prevent it from becoming dearer than gold is to control the price, instead of the owners selling to refiners at prices automatically governed by those who have refined the tin, which should not have anything to do with it. Therefore, I propose that the mine owners should control the supplies, and thus stabilise prices.”—A. and N.Z.
