’Varsity Oarsmen Form Rowing Club

IMPORTANT MOVE SYDNEY CREW EXPECTED Primarily with the object of arranging a satisfactory basis on which the visit of a Sydney University crew can be handled, rowing men of Auckland University met during the week and formed a club of their own. Most of those concerned are already members of other clubs, but the innovation at present will be directed exclusively toward the promotion of varsity races, and there will thus be no diminution of loyalty to the existing Auckland clubs. Last season the first inter-university race was rowed between Auckland University College and Victoria College, Wellington. The race was rowed in four-oared boats, but next year, at Easter, the second race, which will be rowed at Wellington, will be rowed in eights. SENIORS AVAILABLE The Sydney visit is at present hanging fire, pending arrival of letters expected from the Sydney University Rowing Committee. The Sydney men wished to come in January, which was too early to meet the convenience of their hosts, so an effort has been made to arrange the trip a month or two later.

When the Auckland Varsity Club was formed, Mr. M. R. O’Shea presided over a good meeting of enthusiasts, and the following officers were elected: President, Mr. O’Shea; vice-pre-sidents. Professor A. AT. Algie; captain, L. E. Brooker: vice-captain, C. T. Keegan: secretary, D. Hume; treas-

iu*er, J. Hunn; committee, A. M. McKay (Waitemata), A Ross (Auckland), A. McCallum (North Shore); trustees, Mr. O’Shea and Professor Algie. With senior men in Mackay and Brooker on whom to base a crew, the newly-formed club, which will row in blue, the Varsity colours, should be able to boat a strong combination.
