Wales Legislat: ve Assembly passed the Bill prohibiting; betting and wagering on licensed racecourses at night. LOAN COUNCIL.—In the Queensland Assembly the Premier gave notice of the introduction of a Bill to enable Queensland to join the Australian Loan Council.—A. and N.Z. TOTE IN VICTORIA. —The Victorian Assembly passed a Bill authorising the introduction of the totalisator, after it had been amended by deleting the clause prohibiting women operating on the machine. —A. and N.Z. A DENlAL.—Replying to a question in the House of Commons, the Right Hon. W. C. Brldgeman, First Lord of the Admiralty, referring to the recent jamming of the submarine Oxley’s steering gear, denied that she and a sister-ship were engaged in making films.—A. and N-Z. PERMANENT COURT. Signor Arzilotti. of Italy, has been elected President of the Permanent Court of International Justice at The Hague, for the years 1928 to 1930. He succeeds M. Huber, of Switzerland. —A. and N.Z.-Sun. COMMONWEALTH LINE. —Mr. G. N. Keen, the general manager of the Commonwealth Line, has been appointed to the Commonwealth Shipping Board in succession to Sir William Clarkson. —A. and N.Z. _N.S.\V. BRINK BILL. —The Government Statistician’s figures disclose that, toe drink bill of New South Wales for toe year ended in June last totalled £13,222,000, ah increase of .£589,000 ov «t the previous year. The amount per head of the population was £5 12s 7d.—A. and N.Z. FAMILY ENDOWMENT. —The New B°uth Wales Public Service Board is nailing applications for the position of Commissioner under the Family Endowment Act. Mr. E. Treble, who was appointed by the ex-Premier, Mr. J- T. is eligible to compete for the Position which he recently occupied. *• and N.Z. LABOUR’S CENSURE VOTE. —In toeldouse of Commons the committee of the Unemployment Insurance f lll was completed.
