Half-Volleys

Carlton Club, \vhich has risen on the ashes of the Trafalgar Club, Onehunga, was granted affiliation with the L.T.A. on Tuesday. The club has three courts.

The suggestion that Stanley Street courts should be open for hire by the public for one day each week was turned down by the Auckland Association.

Through lack of support for the six courts of the L.T.A, at Stanley Street, the association has decided to reduce the subscription to 30s.

If big entries are received in the three grades of the Auckland championships, more courts than Stanley Street can provide will be needed. Mr. Hickson suggested Remuera courts could be used on the first and second days.

Asked for a ruling on the transferring of players from city to outer suburban competitions, Mr. Hickson said at the L.T.A. meeting: “A player cannot be transposed without the consent of the inter-club committee. No permission has been given.”

Entries for the Auckland L.T.A.’s open handicap tournament to be held at the Stanley Street courts on December 24, 26, 27 and 28, close on Wednesday, December 21, at 6.30 p.m., with the secretary, Mr. L. W. Swan, Lister Building.

Can an unaffiliated club nominate a player defaulting in his subscription to the L.T.A. and have him blacklisted? This question raised some discussion at the meeting of the Auckland Association. One delegate said that the club should apologise, but the argument was really a post-mortem for the letter had been withdrawn, the subscription having been paid. At this stage an Aratonga representative rose and said, “I don’t like to say anything about a man behind his back, but the man we nominated for the list is an absolute twister”
