TROTTING

(By

“ABAYDOS.”)

NOTES AND COMMENTS HORSES FOR WHANGAREI NOT MUCH BUSTLE AT EPSOM There Has not been much stir at Alexandra Park this week although a few trainers gave their Whangarei candidates a rally yesterday. Most of them shaped fairly well and some of the prize-money from the North should ••’each Auckland. Call Boy All Rig'ht Bert Adams was present at Alexandra Park yesterday, with the rinelooking trotter Call Boy, who appears to have done well since his race last Saturday. He will be started in both races at Whangarei, and is sure to be in “call” with backers. Back at Work A. Rattray has recommissioned Cardinal Logan and the Logan Pointer gelding is nice and robust after his short respite. The big fellow is on light'exercise at present, but will soon be asked to put his ‘hurry” cap on, ILe will be a different horse at Christmas from what he was in November. Into his Stride at Last The samvi young trainer has Laytime stepping out as if he means to get more money, and since returning from Hamilton the chestnut is working with fine vim. Now that he has broken the ice he promises to make up for lost time. Laytime was fortunate enough to escape a penalty for his Claudelands victory. Not Quite Right Speed King did not do well when taken to Hamilton, and G. Stubbs brought tli© big fellow home before race day. He was given strong work yesterday morning, but he is still far from right, and puts no sting into his efforts. An El Carbine Maiden The maiden Carnui, by El Carbine from Papanui Bells, was geared up yesterday at Epsom and showed himself to be a likely sort. The four-year-old started at the Thames last year on one occasion, but he will probably require another race or two to tune him up. Going On All Right Bold Bill is none the worse for his outing at Hamilton, and continues his work with fine freedom, and promises to be in form for the Christmas carnival. Bill was allowed to drop out of the Northland Cup and will not sport silk till the Auckland summer fixture. In Good Heart Amaris went solidly over a couple of miles and the stable mate of Jewel Pointer and Co. is in great heart just now. He will take his place in tlie Northland Cup, with Jack Shaw in the sulky, and although well back he will be handy at the finish. A Try in Saddle Horizon has gone on the right way since his u—successful outing at Epsom, and in a spin over 12 furlongs showed a creditable amount of dash. Ite will be tried in saddle at Whangarci on Saturday, and providing tlie Huia Diilon gelding hits the trail smartly he will keep the others busy. Well Mannered Chap The maiden Great Ballin in Garth Robertson's stable is acquitting himself like a real gentleman on the track, and is doing his work in a manner that shows he means business one of these days. The Ballin colt is levelheaded, and this should serve him well if he goes to the post in the Novice field on Saturday. Something Wrong Explosion’s appearance on the Epsom track caused the morning watchers to sit up and take notice, and they anticipated something good. It did not come off, however, as the ex-Hawera youngster would not go right. In patches he showed brilliance, but when at top pressure he would bobble again. Ready for the Fight Van Rich accomplished a pleasing work-out over two miles, and saw it out in good style. Kinnimont has the Van Coronado horse in forward condition, and from his handy work in the big race at Whangarei he should be in the picture. Van is a good beginner, and if he misess the Cup will be busy in the ten furlongs.
