DROVE WHILE DRUNK COURT’S DUTY TO PUBLIC (Special to TEE SUS.) CHRISTCHURCN, Wednesday. A sentence of 14 days' imprisonment was imposed by Mr. E. 13. Mosley, ,S.M.. in the Kangiora Court, to-day on Donald McLean, a Leithfield farmer, who was charged with being in charge of a motor-car while in a state of intoxication, with driving a motor-car without being the holder of a driver's licence, and with procuring liquor during the currency of his prohibition der. The police stated that McLean had driven into two motor-cyclists on the night of November 12. The magistrate said that his attitude in such cases had been well advertised. and he could not depart from it in this case, as he had a duty to the public to perform. McLean was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment with hard labour on the first charge, fined £5 and costs on the second, and convicted and discharged for the breach of his prohibition order.
