MARINE ENGINEER’S DEATH

Press Association.. DUNEDIN, Wednesday. The death of Mr. John Cook, a well-known marine engineer, occurred yesterday. He was 77 years of age. Born in Glasgow, he served his apprenticeship in the engineering trade and was on ships of the Anchor and Cunard lines. He came to New Zealand in 1875 as chief engineer of the Taiaroa and he served in a similar capacity later on the Hawea, Rotorua and Wakatipu. From 1887 to 1920 he was superintending engineer for the Union Steam Ship Company and then lie was associated with Messrs. Stevenson and Cook, engineers. He leaves a widow, four sons and three daughters.
