TWO OPERAS TO-NIGHT
Two favourite Gilbert and Sullivan operas will be presented this evening. That rollicking and truly Gilbertian opera. “H.M.S. Pinafore,” which will be preceded by the favourite “Trial By Jury,” will be the sixth change since | the initial performance of “Ruddii gore,” at His Majesty’s, so it will be j generally admitted that the manage* ! ment has strictly adhered to its pro- ! mise to provide patrons with as much variety as possible during the present I tour. To-night those hearty, deep- | throated sea dogs will dance their
' simple, but lively measure to the most delicious piping of the bo’sun’s whistle, once again the music will come merrily ' over the sea as Sir Joseph Porter and his beautiful maidens are wel- - corned aboard. Strella Wilson, as Josephine, is - sure to fully sustain her high reputa- ' tion in this charming opera; Charles ; Walenn will make an imposing Ad- : miral of the Fleet; and James Hay, ; j with his attractive tenor voice, is happily cast as Ralph. Jack Ralston ' has scored many successes, but none ; more effective than in the character ! of Captain Corcoran, and Bernard j Manning should make an ideal Dick j Deadeye. | The last nights of the season are i approaching. “Princess Ida,” that beautiful fantasy, will be staged tol | morrow,, and the spectacular “Pirates of Penzance” (with matinee and event : ing performances on Saturday) will « j terminate a most enjoyable and sucr ( cessful season. Renee Adoree will play the leading ; ; feminine role in Ramon Xovarro’s new Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer starring vehicle a vivid romance of modern Europe, t but as yet untitled. Other additions to : the supporting cast of this picture in- ■ elude Roy D’Arcy, Jacqueline Gadsden ' and Dorothy
Tim McCoy's next out-door picture for Metro-Gold wyn- Mayer will be “Spoilers of the West.” The new picture is an original story by the authors of “The Frontiersman” and “Wyoming.” W. S. van Dyke will direct and Marjorie Daw will play the leading feminine role.
