“PYGMALION”
A LOCAL PRODUCTION At eight o’clock to-night the curtain will ring up on the fourth production of the Auckland Little Theatre Society for the 1927 season, which is being presented in the concert chamber of the Town Hall. In choosing George Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion,” the society has selected a fitting finale to a most brilliant season in which success has been achieved with “You Never Can Tell,” “The Cassilis Engagement” and the recent triple bill which included “The Old Lady Shows Her Medals.” The present. effort is said to be fully up to the high standard set by earlier productions. Success is assured by the selection of a particularly strong cast, including Linda Murphy, Susan Moncreiff McCallum, Peggy MilneHovey, Ethel Rae, Biddy Philcox, May Cleal, E. E. Addis, Dan Flood, A. T. Keegan and Fred McCallum. This “romance,” perhaps the most daring and outspoken work of an advanced dramatist, should lose nothing in its presentation. The decision of the society to play for an extended season of four, instead of the usual three, nights will be welcomed by the growing audiences, for whose comfort this provision has been made.
Bert Roach, the well-known comedian, and Lucien Prival, a Hungarian actor, have been added to the cast of
“The Dog of&War,” in which Flash, Metro-Gold wyn- Mayer’s new canine star, will make he debut. Ralph Forbes and Marceline Day have the leading roles.
