COUNTRY TRADERS

KEEP SHOPS OPEN (From Our Oxen Correspondent) PUKEKOHE, To-day. At the Pukekohe Court yesterday Clem Vidak and Joseph Henry were charged with failing to close their shops at Patumahoc at 1 p.m. on the statutory half holiday. The latter was also charged with employing an assistant after such closing hour. Both pleaded guilty. It was stated that several country residents had visited each of the stores to obtain their week-end requirements and they had to be served. The magistrate, Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, regarded the first charges as trivial and ordered the defendants to pay costs. On the second count J. Henry was fined 10s.
