SAMOA AND NIUE

EXTENSION OF DOMINION’S TRADE PROPOSED TRADE DELEGATION (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, To-day. _ The possibility of an extension of New Zealand’s trade with Samoa and Niue is viewed optimistically bv the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association, which is discussing the proposal that a business delegation from the Dominion should visit these islands. The proposal came before the a» sociation yesterday. A letter from the Department of Industries and Commerce stated that the delegation is to travel by the Maui Pomare, the new Government steamer, on its first trip to the Islands in pursuance of a scheme to further the fruit export trade from the Islands. The trip would occupy about 23 days and would cost £3O a head. It would commence from Auckland and return direct to either Wellington or Lyttelton. The Minister of External Affairs and the Minister of Industries and Commerce had approved of approaching business interests on the subject and accommodation would be reserved for a reasonable time for 28 delegates. In enclosing the trade figures for Australia the department stated that it was felt that much of the trade done by the Commonwealth could be captured by New Zealand firms if delegates were sent who could give reliable information as to New Zealand products, actual c.i.f. quotations, and better still submit samples. The Department of External Affairs had undertaken the organising work at Niue and Samoa with a view to plao ing every facility at the disposal of delegates. There would be no objection to a delegate being accompanied by his wife or other relatives and friends.
