COUNCILLORS INSPECT PARK AND PLAY AREAS

SITES AT AVONDALE Members of the City Council Parks Committee, and the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, visited Henderson Valley and Avondale this morning to view proposed acquisitions. On the road to Spragg’s Bush Mr. Walker has offered to exchange several acres of land in standing bush, adjoining city reserves, for a similar quantity of land at present growing grass and fern. Included in the area held by Mr. Walker is a kauri tree with a girth of 31ft, the largest near Auckland. At Avondale an offer has been made to sell a strip of land between the new play ground facilities and the private residences, thus providing the suburb with a children’s area well worth while.
