TRUCKS BATTERED
GREY LYNN CRASH
DRIVERS ESCAPE INJURY
A crash like a thunderclap woke echoes at Surrey Crescent early last evening, when motortrucks met in violent collision at the corner of Williamson Avenue.
Both vans were damaged. TI/TR. W. HOLLING SHED, owner of the heavier truck, was carrying a load of wicker chairs along Williamson Avenue, and Mr. A. F. Hedges, driving a lighter truck, owned by Winstone, Ltd., was traversing Surrey Crescent in the direction of Grey Lynn. Two children stepped jnto the road, and Mr. Hedges, dazzled by the strong sun, swerved directly into the other lorry. The front portion of the light truck was crumpled like a concertina, and the other skidded for a few yards before a wheel collapsed, the vehicle capsizing on to its side. By clinging to his seat Mr. Hollingshed escaped injury, and Mr. Hedges suffered only a few cuts on the hands, a remarkable escape for both men. Wicker chairs were spilled on to the roadway, but the freight was in no way damaged.
