New Air Era
GIANT FLYING-BOAT SOON TO BE LAUNCHED SHAPED LIKE SUBMARINE By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 2.2 p.m. LONDON, Monday. A new air era will begin with the launching of two 1,500 horse-power ail-metal flying-boats, which are rapidly being completed at Rochester. These, together with the RIOO, are the last word in air-liners. The flying-boats will be employed in experimental flights between England and Australia. The giant tapering hull is reminiscent of a submarine. They will outride the roughest seas. They carry 15, and each has a refreshment buffet. They are fitted with a small marine engine, operating an underwater screw to drive them like a motor-yacht to a suitable Spot for taking off.—-A. and N.Z.
