A PROMISING MAIDEN
A GOOD deal was expected of the two-year-old Chelone last season, and the Leighton gelding certainly showed a good turn of speed. In each of his four starts Chelone was in a place—a second and three thirds. His record was: Third to Frenzied Finance and Talisker in Wanganui Debutante; second to Laughing Prince, at level weights, in the Avondale Nursery Handicap; third to Auratum and Mandane in the Woodville Nursery Handicap; and third again next day to Gascony and Mandy. If this is not good enough for a weak maiden field, what is? Chelone is to make his first appearance this season at Woodville to-morrow.
