HORSES CHANGE HANDS
A BIG EXPLOSION TROTTER TURNS UP TRUMPS LADY OWNER’S POPULAR WIN Explosion and Great Change, two well-known members of the Corrigan stable, were sold on Saturday prior to the Claudelands Handicap. The former, purchased by Mr M. Moodabe, was started in the heat, but spoilt ail chance of a quick return on the outlay by stopping at the peg. Great Change, purchased by Mrs. Sweetapple, came out in the following event and winning easily credited the I lady owner with £175 and a gold cup.
The dogs were even barking Explo;ion at Hamilton, and the chestnut son >f Nelson Bingen—Ena Bell < good ireeding). who was racing in the in-
terest of his now owner, Mr. M. Moodabe. and driven by Jack Shaw, was made the warmest favourite of the day. He was looked upon as a certainty, but the shot soon exploded. Explosion refused to strike his steps, and did not get unde:- way till his chances looked well extinguished, and £1.367 of investors’ money was quickly in the air. During the race the four-year-old showed something of his
qualities, but had no chance of getting any of the money. A DIFFERENT STORY
In the Hamilton Handicap, Great Change raced in the interest of the Auckland enthusiast, Mrs. Sweetapple, but A. J. Corrigan, who has been associated with the trotter in all his successes, remained in the sulky. Great Change was made a good favourite, being on a par with Loch Moigh’s Cup position in this respect. Great Change, in contrast to his
stable-mate, Explosion, did ® ve f£' thing that was required of him in the race, and after half a mile had been covered, it was plainly visible that the beautiful gold cup, presented by Mr. J. W. Johnston, would find a resting place in the home of the lady owner. There were no anxious moments for the supporters of the Great Audubon trotter, and he was in good style without being troubled. A POPULAR OWNER Mr. Geo. Baildon, Mayor of Auckland, in an appropriate speech, presented the trophy to Mrs. Sweetapple, ana complimented her on her success. That
the win was popular was demonstrated by the hearty cheers given for the recipient. in which none joined more heartily than the previous owner or Great Change, Mr. J. R. Corrigan.
