BELMONT SALE OF WORK Archdeacon Mac Murray opened a very successful sale of work in the St. Michael’s and All Angels’ new parish hall at Belmont on Friday afternoon. He expressed pleasure at being present at the first sale of work in the new hall. Great credit was due to Canon E. J. McFarland in i*aising funds for the hall, and also to the work of the Ladies’ Guild during the past three years. Mrs. Mac Murray was presented with a bouquet of beautiful red roses by little Joyce Taylor. The stalls were decorated with coloured flags and streamers, and were laden with a variety of articles. The following were in charge:—The Waitemata Women’s Progressive League stall, Mrs. A. W. Jones and Mrs. J. W. Greville; Ladies’ Guild stall, Mrs. B. Codd and Mrs. G. F. Day; fancy stall, Mrs. T. Dryland and Mrs. E. J. McFarland; cakes, Mrs. B. Robinson; sweets and novelties, Mrs. B. Norris and Mrs. J. Black; Christmas tree, Mrs. S. C. Fall well and Miss U. M. Cave; jumble stall Mrs. E. L. Hall and Mrs. K. Merton; handkerchief stall, Mrs. E. Buckley; produce, Mr. E. Curry; afternoon tea, Mrs. S. E. Bourdot. During the evening a number of musical items were given, and on Saturday evening the Takapuna Grammar School orchestra was in attendance. The proceeds were given to the building fund of the new hall. An excellent hat-box can be mad© for home use from a round American cheese-box (ask the grocer for one). This can be papered with coloured wall-paper outside and plain cream paper inside. If you want to boil potatoes in a hurry, never add the salt till they are nearly cooked.
