MUNICIPAL CONCERTS
MR. BARNETT’S RECITAL Organ contributions by the city organist, Mr. Mauglian Barnett, formed the nucleus of a very enjoyable municipal concert on Saturday evening. Mr. Barnett’s items included Bowley’s "Homage Hymn," Tschaikowsky’s “Andante Cantabile," Bach’s “Prelude and Fugue in D," “By the Sea” (Schubert), Rubinstein’s “Wedding March,' and Lemare’s "Concertstuck.” In all selections, particularly the Bach number, a high stal¥Uard of interpretative and executive ability was displayed. the appreciation with which they were received being indicated by the numerous encores demanded. The assisting artists were Miss lsobel Langlands, who provided a delightful interpretation of German’s violin solo, “Saltarelle." Miss Langlands also played “Meditation” from Massenet s "Thais,” a number which served _ to demonstrate good tonal and technical qualities. Both numbers were warmly solos from Madame Garner comprised the Spanisli number. Ay! , v Ay!” (Freire) and the aria _Hn Bel di Vedremo,” from Puccini s "Madame Butterfly." Both proved very acceptable, extra numbers being dem Mix e Leo. Whittaker proved a very capable accompanist. municipal band A very enjoyable concert was provided by the Municipal Band at the Town Hall last evening. The programme was as follows: March “Cleopatra.” "Pique Dame ISuDDe) “In a Chinese Temple bara^o“P!Ketelbey). “The Caravan, In a” Persian Garden” (Ketelbey), “The Tight Dragoon,” and selection of Schubert s melodics from the musical play, "Lilac Time.”
