“YEOMEN OF THE GUARD”

HIS MAJESTY’S TO-NIGHT The short season of “Patience” was concluded on Saturday evening, and now comes the turn of the popular “Yeomen of the Guard.” The booking is very heavy. The chorus and the orchestra have special opportunities in “The Yeoman of the Lruard," and under the very able direction of Gustave Slapofl’ski the highclass music is heard at its very best. The big finals to the first act would do justice to grand opera. No more attractive duet has ever been created than “1 Have a Song to Song, Oh,” and the dances by Miss Streila Wilson and Mr. Charles Walenn are splendid. Miss Streila Wilson has unlimited opportunities for the display of her rich soprano voice in the music allotted to Elsie Maynard, particularly in the number “I Am a Bride.” Charles Walenn is in his element in the brilliant role of Jack Point, which gives him opportunities to shine as a dramatic star. Mr. James Hay will again appear as Colonel Fairfax, to which is attached the tenor solo, “Is Life a Boon.” Mr. Jack Ralston is Jiighly amusing as Wilfred Shadbolt, tile unshorn lover of Phoebe Meryll. Miss Winifred Wilson scored one of her best successes when the company last appeared with herself as Dame Carrutliers and Miss Mabel Gibson will take the important part of Phoebe Meryll. Mr. Bernard Manning will appear as Sergeant Meryil, Mr. Leo. Darnton as Leonard Meryll, Mr. Lance Fairfax as Lieutenant of the Tower, and Miss Lilian Crisp as Kate. To-morrow night “iolanthe'’ will be staged, and on Wednesday afternoon and evening “The Gondoliers” will be produced. On Thursday night “HJVL.S. Pinafore,” preceded by “Trial By Jury,’ will be revived, and on Friday evening “Princess Ida” will be presented. On Saturday afternoon and evening the company will make its final appeal - j ances in “The Pirates of Penzance.”
