VICTORIA BATS WELL SHEFFIELD SHIELD GAME By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright ADELAIDE Saturday. In the second day’s play of the Sheffield Shield cricket match between Victoria and South Australia, Victoria had lost eight wickets for 646 runs when stumps were drawn (Ryder 70, Hendry 168, Scaife 28, Hartkopf, not out. 111, Blackie 55). The weather was fine and the wicket was good. The Victorian batsmen provided the South Australians with a day’s leather hunting. Ryder gave a brilliant display of batting, his partnership with Hendry adding 146 for the third wicket. Scaife, a young batsman, shaped well! Hartkopf pleased the spectators with his forceful hitting. In his association with Blackie 140 runs were added to the total. Excepting Grimmett who managed to keep the runs down, the visitors made all the bowling appear easy.—A. N.Z. .
