WAIRARAPA BEATEN EASY WIN FOR WELLINGTON (Special to THE SUN.) MASTERTON, Saturday. The Wellington Tennis Association’s team defeated Wairarapa here to-day by 22 matches to 2. Conditions were ideal, except that the courts were a trifle slow after weeks of showery weather. The visitors fielded practically a Wilding Shield team and had an easy win, though many of the games were much closer than the scores would indicate. The only losses suffered by Wellington were in the men’s singles and mixed doubles, G. N. Goldie losing to N. Miller, and J. C. Peacock and Mrs. Adams losing to J. Martin and Mrs. H. McMaster. Judging by its exhibition to-day, Wellington has a well-balanced side which will take a power of beating in the Wilding Shield matches. Len France was unable to play owing to an attack of influenza. PAPAKURA GAMES CHRIST CHURCH CLUB OPENED The official opening of the Christ Church tennis courts was held on Saturday, in the presence of about 90 people. Through the unavoidable absence of Archbishop Averill, the patron of the club, Mr. Percy Holt, was called upon by the president, the Rev. W. C. Wood, to declare the courts open. Speaking as president of the Papakura Beautifying Society, he raid he was greatly interested in anything that tended to beautify Papakura, and the laying down of two chip courts had greatly improved the appearance of the church property. He congratulated the vicar and his band of workers on completing the laying-out of the courts in such a comparatively short time, and vvished the club great success in their first season. Later in the day Archdeacon and Mrs. Simkin arrived, bringing the Archbishop’s apologies. Afternoon tea was afterwards dispensed and the courts were formally opened by Miss Clare Wood serving the first ball. The courts are situated between the church and the new vicarage, and are enclosed with 12ft. netting. A little later on a pavilion is to be erected at the end of the hall. A feature which was greatly admired was the natural terrace round the courts from which the progress of games can be watched. Papakura Methodists v.
