The New South Wales touring Rugby team defeated Cardiff today by 15 points to 9, There was an attendance of 20,000 people. The weather was dull. Soon after play commenced Cardiff secured the lead, Maile kicking a penalty goal. For Waratahs J. Ford scored a try, which was converted by Lawton. The latter afterwards increased the lead witli a dropped goal. After the interval Cardiff secured a further penalty goal and an unconverted try. At this juncture a sensation was caused by J. Ford being sent off the field. Some of the Cardiff players appealed for Ford to remain, but the referee was adamant. The player left the Waratahs with only 14 men.

Waratahs won a thrilling game when Towers and Tarleton scored unconverted tries after most spectacular handling by the forwards and backs. It was a great finish to a magnificent game. The visitors had to fight hard, and it was their clever combination which turned the game in their favour. The decision of the referee to send Ford off the field followed a melee near the Cardiff goal-posts.
