FAITH OF DR. BARNES BOOK PUBLISHED By Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright LONDON, Thursday. The Bishop or Birmingham, Dr. E. W. Barnes, has published a book entitled “Should Such a Faith Offend?’ in ansver to his critics. He dissociates himself from the Modernists or the left, typified by the Modernist Roman Catholics, v/ffiom Pope Pius X. crushed. Their idea of the Divine Immanence is, he says, virtually pantheism. "I need,” says Dr. Barnes, “a God *ho is our Father, who rules the *orld and loves tlie world with a father's love.” Dr. I iarnes sets aside the accounts the Incarnation in the Synoptic 3°*Pels (Matthew’, Mark, Luke) and *ay3 he prefers the opening of the GosItei according to St. John. Referirng to the Eucharist, he says that as a result of the consecration ho spiritual presence is attached to 0r inheres in the elements. The root Princip e of idolatry is the belief that the Deity is localised in material obfccts, through the invocation of the Driest.—A. and N.Z.
