To Portray a G.B.S. Character
Mr. J. F. Montague, who is giving a talk on elocution and public speaking in the Unity Hall this evening, is one of the best known adjudicators in elocution in the Dominion, and he is besides a bright and interesting talker and raconteur. The short lecture this evening will be followed by an elocutionary recital of a high order, ranging from Macaulay to some of the latest comedy hits and skits, and there will be a group of child pieces, and four selections by New Zealand writers. Miss Ina Thompson, vocalist, will contribute three solos, “Che Faro,” “Sapphic Ode,” and “Now is the Time For Love.” Mr. Cyril Towsey will be .at the piano.
Jean Forbes Robertson, who was liere with her mother, Gertrude Elliot (Lady Forbes Robertson) will play Peter in this year’s revival of “Peter Pan” in London. * * Margaret Lawrence and Louis Bennison have opened their Melbourne season with “Our Wife,” to be followed by “Rain” and “The Road to Rome.” The Rector of St. Peter’s, Chelmsford, England, while playing the part of a burglar in an amateur theatrical show heard the cry “Burglars” from the women’s dressing-room. He rushed off the stage in the middle of his act and chased a suspect through backyards Finally using his own “property” electric torch, he found the man hiding in a shed and gave him into custody.
