BOOTSHOP RANSACKED

CHRISTCHURCH BURGLARY CSpecial to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. After smashing a back window of the premises of S. Gilmour, boot importer, Cashel Street, some time during the night, thieves thoroughly ransacked the stock, taking a quantity of boots and rifling the till. Mr. Gilmour on closing down yesterday locked all windows and both the back door and one leading into the front portion of the shop. When he arrived this morning he found that a back window had been smashed and that a pane of glass in the door leading to the front of the shop had been cut out. Boots and boxes were strewn on the floor behind the counter. A number of boxes had been taken down, but were replaced on the shelves. The till had been opened, but the thieves were disappointed, as it contained only small change, coppers and stamps, all of which were taken.
