Suburban Cricket
SENIOR DRAW REVIEWED Glen Eden Plays Harbour A THE third set of matches in the Suburban Senior A competitions will be played on the Domain to-morrow. Ellerslie plays Harbour Board B. Glen Eden plays Harbour Board A and Ponsonby plays Green Lane.
Probably the best draw ot: the competitions was last Saturday’s, which turned out even more exciting than most fans expected. When a side like Ellerslie bat up 200 runs for five wickets and then lose the game there seems no limit to the strange things that can happen. Yet there is the glorious uncertainty of cricket. The Harbour Colts have an opportunity to-morrow to clinch their club mates’ victory, but they will have to produce something special in their attack. Ellerslie’s display last Saturday is enough to give bowlers an advance headache. Gedye, with two fine innings to open the sea_son, seems to be at the top of his form and the Burtons have opened the average book with rattling good scores. Looking down the Ellerslie side one cannot but be impressed with the conclusion that, as the racing men say, what beats it will win. The Colts will have a chance to prove themselves a fighting side, and one rather expects that of them, for they gave a taste of that quality last Saturday, when they chased Ponsonby to a very narrow margin. TWO WINS EACH There should be a good deal of interest in the Glen Eden v. Harbour Board A match. The Harbour Board eleven has shown a hot set of bowlers who will trouble Glen Eden. Dunning, from whom something good is expected, failed to come off last Saturday, Bennett and Matthews carrying on the attack. They are a strong enough combination to give Glen Eden cause for thought. Glen Eden strung out miserably in its first innings last Saturday, J. Belsham and Shepherd getting more than 100 of the total of 153 runs. To extend the opponents this week they will have to put up a better stand. Shepherd made 61 in the first strike on Saturday last and in the second innings put up another 37, so he will be watched with interest for a day or two. Harbour Board A is a much more even' batting side, though it has not shown its best in either match so far. To-morrow it will be going for its third win, and unless Glen Eden can do something very special it will go down. Each team has won both matches to cla 4 #. so Glen Eden has this to look forward to—if it can put the harbour side down it will lead the competition. Ponsonby and Green Lane will supply a good game. Green Lane has gone down twice in succession and Ponsonby has had a narrow win and a beating. Lane may still look on the season with some hope, for it has plenty of batsmen if they can but strike form:
