WAIKATO’S PRESIDENT

KEEN ENTHUSIAST LIVE-WIRE “DICK” REID There is no keener enthusiast throughout the Dominion in the interest of the light-harness sport than Mr. R. T. Reid, president of the Waikato Trotting Club. It is generally conceded by those most interested in the welfare of the liuht-luirness industry in the Waikato district, without in any way detracting from the valuable work of the executive and various officers of the club, that the real "live wire" of the institution is president "Dick" Reid. K. T. is now serving his third year in the capacity of president, and prior to taking this important office was a valuable member of the committee. Mi. Reid, who is a native of Canterbury has been actively associated with trotters and gallopers all his life

His knowledge, from direct touch with ihe sport in various parts of the Dominion for several years proved invaluable when the pros and cons of the club's new scheme were under diswith the co-operation of his committee, progress was very rapidly made in the direction of consummating the plan of improvements which has brought Cluudelands into the front line in catering for the needs of the important sport of trotting. The Waikato enthusiast several years ago raced some good horses, tho best known being perhaps the speedy grey pacer Eccentric, who successfully carried the Reid livery to victory in the first Metropolitan tree-for-All In 191-1. In later years Mr. Reid has capably ■filled such onerous positions as handicapper and starter to several Northern clubs, and, at the present time,-acts as dispatcher for several country clubs. He will be again represented on Ihe field of activities, being a part owner of the promising filly Medusa, by

Man o’ War. from an old favourite mare, Miss Rolfe, who is trained by “Taxtar” Julian. The filly will carry the black and grey jacket in the novice rai-o to-morrow and should the president’s representative succeed in annexing the stake it would be a popular win.
