COMPENSATION FOR INJURY TO WORKERS

Reed. 9.20 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day The first annual report of the Workers’ Compensation Commission, tabled in the Assembly, states that of 50,000 cases of injury notified by workers during the year ended in June last, all except 1.3 per cent, were settled by agreement, the balance being determined by the commission at public hearings. The cost of administration of the Act for the period of July to the end of December, 1926, was 1.3 per cent, of the premium income of insurers. The wages paid annually by self-insurers totalled £27,000,000, and the amount of deposits required to be lodged was £303,000. —A. and N.Z.
