In a challenge match this week for third place on the Auckland ladder, V. R. Johns defended his position against E. W. Griffiths. The score was 4-—6 , 6—-2, 7—5. Johns intends to challenge A. W.
The men will probably include X. R. C. Wilson. J. C. Peacock. Len and Don France, J. B. Parker, S. Wheeler, H. McGill, A. Sandra 1, C. Malfroy, R. Donovan. X. Goldie and R. McL. Ferkins. E. B. W. Smyth is not available.
It seemed incredible that Tilden •hould be defeated by Cochet at Wimbledon according to Miss Marjorie Macfarlane. For two sets “Big Bill” was absolutely master of the court, and then his touch went entirely and his errors were multitudinous.

A "guest evening" was given by the I nity Tennis Club, Edendale, last evening. Members of other clubs 'vere invited, and among those present "’ere Mr. Ohlson, the vice-president, Mr. L. There was a large number of guests, and the court being a well-lighted one, play "'as continued until 11 p.m. Refreshments were served in the pavilion durmg the evening.
