CUSTOMS REVENUE SHOWS DECIDED DROP
WELL BEHIND LAST YEAR BETTER TIMES EXPECTED the first 11 months of 1927 there is a diminution of £110,481 as compared with last year, in the Customs revenue collected at Auckland. Iu November there was a decrease of £13,840, which is less serious than the drop of £77,301 in the previous month. Buth the Customs officials are not losing heart, for the approach of the festive season will necessitate spirits for the Christmas puddings and similar purposes—being steadily drawn out of bond. Taxable petrol also begins to arrive this month, the first shipment being due on December 4. The revenue payable is £4 a ton, so that a 10,000ton cargo will return the handsome duty of £40,000. The beer duty during November was £12,120 as against £12,577 for November of last year. For October and November the revenue figures are £147,596 and £179.460, and the total for the year to date is £2,157,314, as against £2,267,795 for a similar period last year.
