LAST DANCE OF YEAR
OPERATIC SOCIETY A large number of members and their friends were present at the final dance of the season held by the Auckland Amateur Operatic Society in its hall in Grafton Road last evening. During the evening a presentation was made to Miss Jean Macindoe and the members of her cheery little dance orchestra who have so willingly assisted the society during the past two seasons. _ , The presentation was made by ivir. R Gieson, the social secretary, who expressed the society's appreciation of all that Miss Macindoe and her band had done. Among those present were: Mrs. Hunt, who wore a frock of nasturtium georgette inset with silver lace. Mrs. W. Carson, in a frock ol: prettily beaded lavender georgette: Mrs. Sawyer, panne velvet frock of moonflower blue. Mrs. C. Prime, frock of primrose geor°eMrs. College, iris mauve taffeta and gold lace. . „ , _ , , Sister Peggy Hovey, beaded frock of black crepe elise. Miss Fowler, frock of French grey lace sashed with lacquer red velvet. Miss J Carson, black sequined frock of georgette. . Miss D’Authreau, gold lace frock with girdle of cherry red velvet. Miss L. Tanner, gold tissue frock panelled with gold lace. Miss Stares, sequined frock of powder blue georgette. Miss L. Taylor, frock of mignonette green taffeta. Miss D. Richardson, frock of black georgette. Miss D. Garratt, white frock of georgette. Miss N. Lingard, gold beaded frock of wallflower crepe de chine. Miss D. Bagnall, brocaded frock of tissue banded with white fur. Miss J. Porter, white georgette frock with scarlet shoulder posy. Miss Jean Macindoe, frock of black georgette. Miss R. Redmond, geranium pink taffeta frock. Miss M. Bragarto, peach tinted sequined frock. Miss M. Knox, beaded frock of phlox pink georgette. Miss L. Murphy, white crepe de chine. Miss R. Kennedy, frock of pale spring green taffeta. Miss M. Warsaw, frock of primrose taffeta. Miss Wilkinson-Smith, taffeta frock of Nile green toning. Miss E. Rae, frock of pussy willow panne velvet. Miss G. Jones, wistaria mauve taffeta frock. Miss G. Ryan, sequined frock of apple green georgette. Miss C. Creigh, frock of pillar box red georgette. Miss N. Clark, frock of gold brocaded tissue. Miss S. Thompson, black frock of georgette and embroidered shawl. Items were contributed during the evening by:—Miss D. Bagnall, Miss M. Fair Mr. H. Crawford and Mr. C. Prime; songs’ Miss D. D’Authreau, sketch; Mr. F. McCallum, humorous recitation; Mr. H. Withers and Mr. R. Fenwick, acrobatic duo. COUNTRY WOMEN’S CLUB ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Country Women’s Club took place in the Te Pahi hall, when there was a representative assembly. Mrs. Marx, the president, reviewed the work of the past year, and trusted that the membership would increase. During the afternoon Mrs. George Waterman, who is leaving the district, was presented with a beautiful clock. Mrs. Mahoney, in making the presentation, expressed I regret at losing such good settlers as : Mr. and Mrs. Waterman, and wished them health and happiness in their new home at Milford, Auckland.
The following members were elected u the new committee: Mesdames Marx, Mahoney, Corcoran, Watt, Whittaker, Haddock, and Corbett, and Miss Mack, Mrs. Mahoney was elected president. Mesdames Marx and Corcoran, vicepresidents; Mrs. Corbett, secretary Mrs. Codlin, secretary of the library committee. The new president spoke of the valuable work done by Mrs. Marx. On behalf of all members, the president then called on Mrs. Codlin to make the presentation, a collapsible card table. The recipient suitably responded. A hearty vote of thanks was proposed to Mrs. Codlin, who had carried out the duties of secretary during th© last two years; also to Mrs. Newlands, who had acted as librarian.
