ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF MOTHERS’ UNION

The annual festival of the Auckland branch of the Mothers’ Union was celebrated in St. Mary’s Cathedral yesterday, the service being conducted by Canon Percival James. The archbishop delivered an address, in which he eulogised the union as one of tlio strongest forces for righteousness in the community. He regretted tho tendency of the times to regard all questions from the point of view of human convenience and selfishness. There was no social question that could be considered apart from God.

He regarded Biblo teaching in schools as essential and was prepared to challenge the opponents of the Bill to a referendum and would abide by the result.

The archbishop concluded with a stirring delivery on true patriotism.

Later in the afternoon the members of the union were entertained by Mrs. Averill at afternoon tea at Bishopscourt.
