GRAND
“AFTER MIDNIGHT” TO-MORROW
“After Midnight,” which will be shown at the Grand Theatre to-mor-row, tells of the folk who wake up when the rest of the world is abed, and of the tragedy and comedy that fills their lives. Lawrence Gray, handsome and manly, plays opposite Miss Shearer in this appealing romance. Miss Shearer plays the part of a cigarette girl in an all-night cabaret, and while her “uniform” consists of delectable silken pyjamas, satin-laced and trimmed with gold cord, her “walkingout” dress is simple to the point of plainness. Director Monta Bell insisted on Miss Shearer dressing as a working girl would dress —and she did. On the other hand, Gwen Lee, who plays the part of her jazz-mad sister, wears garments of the most striking and bizarre kind.
In the last crashing scenes, however, Norma, thinking that her fiance has failed her. decides to “live for to-day,” and spends the savings of years on a dazzling wardrobe. It is then that this Canadian beauty is seen at her ravishing best.
