LUNCH HAMPERS ON THE TRAIN
RAILWAY INNOVATION Lunch hampers on the Auck-land-Wellington express. This is the latest and perhaps the most welcome innovation of the Railway Department. It will come into operation on Monday, when the Daylight Limited begins. lunch pampers, which promise to be most attractive, will be provided from the refreshment rooms at Frankton Junction and Marton. Passengers who propose to have their lunch on the train may ask the guard or a stationmaster to order one. The order will be telegraphed ahead and when the train arrives at the station the hampers will be delivered personally to whoever orders them. The hampers are to be fitted with crockery, cutlery, table napkins and thermos flasks and the menu from which a choice can be made will consist of several varieties of cold meats, bread and butter, cheese, salad, tea, coffee, ocoa or soft drinks. Instead of the rush to eat in refreshment rooms when the train stops at a station, passengers will now be able to eat in comfort and at their leisure.
