S.P.C.A.’S YEAR
ANNUAL REPORT Appreciation of the manner in which the Society for the Protection of Women and Children facilitated the separation between the two bodies, is expressed in the annual report of the Auckland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The inspector, Captain Lee, had resigned in July and Mr. H. Ferguson had been appointed to the position. The honorary solicitor had recommended prosecution in three instances. In two cases a conviction was recorded and in the third the defendant escaped conviction owing to his serious illness. The success of the operations of the society was in a great measure attributable to the ladies of the committee, and others, who had given of their best. It was gratifying to record that inquiries had been received from Whangarei, Tauranga and Samoa with a view to establishing branches. The inspector visited Whangarei, and Mr. Charles Hall was appointed honorary inspector for the district. The finances were on a sound footing. The death of the society’s past patron, Sir Henry Brett, is recorded with regret.
