FREEDOM OF SONG. —Speaking in the debate on the Supplementary Estimates, Mr. E. J. Howard expressed the hope that if New Zealand were represented at the copyright conference at Rome something would be done to check the workings of “that octopus” which now claimed the copyright over all classes of music and tried “to stop anyone singing, whispering or whistling songs.” —S.
