Lyceum Flower Show
THE GARDENING CIRCLE I SHOWS WHAT CAN BE DONE ! I BEAUTIFUL BLOOMS Masses of glorious flowers were banked about the lounge of the Lyceum Club yesterday, testifying joyously with their fragrant beauty to the work of the members of the gardening circle. Roses, sweet peas, stocks, larkspur, delphinium, and a host of other delightful blossoms flaunted their colourful charm everywhere, the crimson beauty of some wonderful rosebud bravely holding its own against the pert insouciant blue of high-held heads of larkspur, and here a nodding spray of heavily-laden stock shed its Old World fragrance to mingle with the more sophisticated perfume of other flowers. The exhibition was opened by Mrs. W. H. Parkes, president of the Lyceum Club, who was presented with a beautiful bouquet of pink and white sweet peas, carnations, and maidenhair fern. Mrs. Parkes congratulated the convenor of the gardening circle, Mrs. A. Kidd, and the memers, on the line display of flowers, and said the members were going to ask the gardening enthusiasts to decorate the tables and room when the club had the honour of entertaining Mrs Amery at tea. A CHILDREN’S PARTY A delightful party for the tiny tots was given last Saturday afternoon at “The Cliff,” Mount Eden, by Mrs. E. Brown for her three children, Peggy, Douglas and Shirley. The tables were gaily decorated with streamers, pink roses, balloons, and bon-bons, and out in the garden the trees were hung with presents and gifts for the small guests. Merry games were indulged in on the lawn, and the little ones were allowed to remain until 7.30 p.m-, when the j very jolly little party concluded.
Mrs. Brown wore a navy blue shaded frock of georgette, touched with petunia, and a soft shady hat to tone.
