Garden Party

‘ MRS. H. O. NOLAN ENTERTAINS IN HER DELIGHTFUL GROUNDS THREE HUNDRED GUESTS The grounds of “Ard.va.le/ Mount fc>t. John Avenue, Epsom, were most enthusiastically admired yesterday afternoon, when Mrs. H. O. Nolan, who leaves early in the New Year for England, gave a garden party at her beautiful home to about 300 guests. The elements were kind for once and bestowed upon the hostess one of. the most perfect days we have had this season. , There were the old brick paths, still dear to the heart of garden-lovers, through beds of pansies, foxgloves and stocks, arches of evergreen, walls of creepers, hedges, of tecoma, pergolas of climbing roses and wistarias, and rustic paths leading to little beauty spots all over the grounds. The border of marigolds about two feet wide each side of the back drive, with rows of hydrangeas for a background, was a glorious sight. Up the hill were terraces and more terraces, with perfectly kept lawns, all bordered with most exquisite flowers of all descriptions, and at the top of the bill the view of the harbour was superb. In all its was a garden arranged with the most perfect regard to colour harmony. The irises in the drawing room were magnificent. Mrs. Nolan 'wore a frock of dark blue crepe de chine with an inset panel of exquisite lace and softly pleated skirt. Miss Dorothy Nolan, who assisted to entertain the numerous guests, looked very charming in a cream lace frock over ivory georgette and wore an eau dc nil picture hat. The reception rooms were decorated with bowls of delightful flowers in colour schemes to suit the rooms, and there were vases of sweet peas on the tea tables and in the marquee.
