MR. J. P. DONALD RETIRES , PRESENTATION FROM BUSINESSMEN The final luncheon of ,the Karangaiiape Road Business ProiripUon Society yesterday took the form or at farewell to Mr. J. P. Donald, who ha* retired from the position of manager of the National Bank of New Zealajsd, in Newton, after having been manage: for the past 20 years, and In the service of the bank for 40 years. The luncheon was very largely attended, and those present included numbers of the clientele of the bank. These and the business men both made presentations as an expression of goodwill and esteem. The society gave a beautiful leather-bound address, and the clients a leather bag of soverelgn*. Mr. M. J. Bennett, who presided, made the society’s presentation, and on behalf of the clients Mr. G. R. Hutchinson made the other. “We had a 100 per cent, response to our appeal for funds for tne presentation to Mr. Donald, and there could be no better testimonial to the general appreciation in which Mr. Donald has been held in our district.” remarked Mr. Hutchinson. He said Mr. Donald’s 20 years’ association with a growing district had been difficult, had finally had an effect on his health, causing a retirement, which was universally regretted- He was held in high esteem as a business man and a friend. “I am satisfied you have an exalted opinion of what I have been able to do.” remarked Mr. Donald, in reply. “I accept with grateful thanks your further offYr of appreciation. The wonderful expressions have lightered the load that one fc~ls when severing his connection with his life’s work. The presentations, apart from their value, are, to me, priceless.”
